Notes on Economic Lectures

People forget the lessons of the past unless they can live through it and understand why things changed. There will also always be a group of people who will not do as well as other groups and due to the bell curve that group might be a large one if the system does not cater to those who are less fortunate.

In order to create a system that works well one needs to figure out how to make a large majority of the group relatively if not real happy with the new system when comparing it to their memory of past systems.

The biggest problem with democratic politics is that you have a hard time getting everyone on a single side because everyone is biased to what they want.

If I was to try to predict what stocks are going to do well I would follow - (Warren Buffet) Buy the company who has a good track record and is continually making sound decisions.

Inequality - How do we equalize to a point where we have made the majority happy while not stepping on the toes of the rich? Figure out what your rich want. Figure out what you need to do to get the rest of the world equally happy.

Rent Control

The "rent in NY where people can pass the price down to their kids" refers to rent-controlled and rent-stabilized apartments, especially those inherited by family, offering extremely low, stable rents, though new tenants can't usually get them directly, but the existing tenant's immediate family (spouse, adult children, or parents) may qualify for succession rights to keep the apartment and its low rent, a rare opportunity in NYC's high-cost market.

We need to implement this everywhere. I have been at my apartment 2 years this year and I just got my third rent hike letter for $100. Thats 300.00 already. I don't want to move but want the freedom to if I want to. I don't want a lease. What if I realize I live in a place where toxic chemicals are present in the water?

The infamous Love Canal disaster in Niagara Falls, NY, where Hooker Chemical Company buried over 20,000 tons of toxic waste in an abandoned canal, leading to severe health issues (birth defects, miscarriages, cancers) in the 1970s, forcing evacuations, and spurring the creation of the U.S. Superfund program to clean hazardous waste sites. The chemicals, including dioxin, seeped into homes, causing a major environmental crisis.

Its great to see people doing something about the drug crisis because I sometimes wonder if there is a movement behind drug addiction to not only sell drugs to people but to have a reason to constantly gouge people out of their money.

If we started with rent caps where you get a single price on move in and it stays at that price till you move out regardless of lease would it be a start in controlling inflation? If you think it through the cost of the smaller things has to stay down to allow the landlords to turn a profit. Like food the cost stays down when the producer has smaller costs. What kept the cost down in the earlier years of the US? Maybe that deal up there in the starting of this post?

We all want to make more so we can live more like the rich. We need to look at these points where the group can unite (group of landlords and tenants) and fight to keep the prices of the goods they need down (rent control and because we need these same goods) or the extra money we make when we get a raise will get soaked up every time we get one.

Mandatory Hour of School

If people where mandated one hour a day that they would have to spend learning Math, Reading, English and Spelling it could open doors for them that would spur not only the growth of our work force but give people a reason to stop doing things that could steal the American dream from them.

The American dream comes from people who have the ability and the opportunity to make it happen in their lives. When they are at a place where they have a road block in achieving success they can become despondent, angry, jealous and often act out in the opposite of success and create problems in the society they live in.

If we made it mandatory that they go to an hour of school for the rest of their lives, they could fix things that are road blocks to success like not being able to speak and understand English. The thing that allows me to read, understand and learn AI on YouTube. Some people need more work on math, some need work being able to write. Having not been to eager in school to begin with might have been the result of bad fiends, not realizing the right way to learn or not having the right mentorship.

If someone stays working on themselves in this area they will grow more confident in their abilities and over time it will open up more doors for them and for US. We will be growing a wealth of natural talent that has been left untapped. All things are hard when you fist start but if you continue at something you will ultimately start to feel comfortable at it.

I think that everyone doing it will take the stigma out of it and help people realize that its pathway to heaven. Financial freedom is King and when people start to clear away the road blocks they will gain momentum.

Good reads and God speed!
